Zaccho Dance Theatre is proud to present Dying While Black & Brown as part of the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company’s (SFBATCO) 3rd New Roots Theatre Festival at the Brava Theater Center on November 11, 2023.

This 3-day arts festival from November 10-12, 2023, unearths artistic voices in the Bay Area, celebrates the development of new work, and centers BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ voices. The 2023 festival features 2 SFBATCO original projects and 4 projects by Bay Area legacy companies Zaccho Dance Theatre, Campo Santo, Magic Theatre, AfroSolo, SF Recovery Theatre. The Festival offerings range from staged readings to fully memorized workshop productions

Dying While Black and Brown is a profound artistic experience that advocates for the abolition of the Death Penalty. Originally commissioned by the Equal Justice Society in 2011, the work is a choreographed dance theater piece expressing both the struggle and will to survive in an inherently dehumanizing system. Featured performers will include Erik Raymond K. Lee, Dazaun Soleyn, Toni Cannon, and jose e. abad.
