The Equal Justice Society’s year-long Remembering 1619 observance marks the 400th anniversary of the advent of slavery in the United States.
One of the highlights of our observance will be an unforgettable artistic presentation featuring musicians, actors and dancers from the acclaimed Marcus Shelby Orchestra; Zaccho Dance Theatre; actor, Steven Anthony Jones; filmmaker Cheo Tyehimba Taylor; and vocalist Faye Carol.
These talented and brilliant artists are creating an artistic presentation incorporating the pain and triumph of Africans in the United States. The performance will cover the 400 years in four acts.
